Neko Harbor was one of the larger glaciers we visited. We were not allowed to linger along the beach here, because the glacier had been very active, producing waves of 15 feet up the shore.

If you knew how hard it was climbing in 3-4 layers of clothing and these big clown boots, you would appreciate the fact that those dots behind me are people, not penguins! (Roommate is behind me, I don't have four feet!)

This Gentoo parent (parent because both males and females sit on the nest) is trying to hatch both an egg and a chick. This late in the year, hatching of the egg is not possible, and the chick is doubtful.

This parent is trying to raise two chicks. Again, slim chance of survival because most chicks are already fledglings, independent from parents.

Port Lockroy, former British station established during Operation Tabarin during Britain's WWII attempt to lay territorial claim to Antarctica. It is now a museum, and Southernmost post office in the world, processing 50,000 postcards each year.
