I stopped for a refreshing fresh squeezed orange juice from this little stand on the beach.

Another 20 min hike down the beach brings you to Cabo San Juan de la Guia, a beautiful cape with nice beach for swimming, but their "tent city" was more crowded than Arrecifes.

The gazebo at the top of the cape contains hammocks and 2 cabanas for rent, but it would be a long walk down to the bathroom!

The hammock accommodations at Cabo San Juan de la Guia can be rented for about $8 US per night.

This is what a $22 US hotel room looks like in Parque Tayrona. Tent rental? Twenty dollars. Tip for extra mattress and sheets? Two dollars. Falling asleep to the sound of waves crashing on the beach? PRICELESS!!!

Santa Marta's cathedral claims to be Colombia's oldest church. Simon Bolivar was buried here in 1832, but later moved to Caracas, Venezuela, his birthplace.

Even the street vendors in Santa Marta seem to be from another time.

Santa Marta also has a good bit of colonial architecture, much of it under restoration. This building lines the Cathedral square. The crowd outside was watching a game of bowling, using stacked plastic cups and a soccer ball.

I made it a point to never miss a Santa Marta sunset, as my hotel was only two blocks from "la playa."
