Another big splash out at the lovely "Donde Chucho" restaurant in Santa Marta, billed by Lonely Planet as "the best seafood on the coast." They can't have been wrong.

My first course was a "Ensalada de Chucho," a house specialty of smoked shrimp, octopus, squid and fish marinated in oil and lime juice. Remembering back, it was so good it makes my head swim!

My main course was another delicious specialty, Robalo in Parmesan and Mozzarella cheese sauce. The first course, main course, homemade flan for dessert, and two Club Colombia beers cost me about $35 US.

My last day in Santa Marta, I took the bus for a 15 minute ride to Tagunga, a nearby fishing village about 3 miles away. It is known to have turned into a "gringo haven," and also a destination for scuba divers.

A fellow traveler at my hotel back in Santa Marta told me not to miss Playa Grande, a beach accessible only by boat or as Lonely Planet calls it, the "cliff hugging footpath." This view is back down on the Taganga harbor from the footpath.

The footpath originates from the beautiful Hotel Bahia Taganga up on the hill, which has rooms with balconies overlooking the bay. It made a nice rest stop along my hike to the beach.

The beautiful horseshoe-shaped bay of Taganga is surrounded by the Sierra Nevada de Santa Marta mountain range, making for spectacular hillside views.

Finally I reach the crest of the footpath and I can see that Playa Grande is worth the 20 minute hike over the hill!

The only thing on Playa Grande is a few beach chairs, and several thatched hut restaurants.
