Santa Marta is the closest major town to huge national park, "Parque Tayrona," 45 minutes by shared taxi. No automobiles are allowed beyond the park entrance, so you either hike in (90 min) or go by horseback. I decided to ride in, hike out.

After about a 20 minute hike further down the coast, you come to La Piscinas, or "the pool." It is a deep bay surrounded by rocks, making it a calm, natural swimming pool.
