Israel built a wall surrounding the proposed Palestinian State, including Bethlehem. Anyone who thinks we need a wall on our border should experience this -- Ugly in every sense of the word! I wasn't allowed to photograph the armed sniper tower.

Nazareth is the largest Arab city in Israel. The population is 70% Muslim and 30% Christian. The main draw for the day tour groups is the Basilica of the Annunciation, but the city is worthy of a longer stay.

The Basilica, built in 1969, the largest church in the Middle East is believed to stand on Mary's home. The dome (more like a cone) is supposed to represent palm fronds.

Nazareth is known for it's Ottoman architecture. Over 100 mansions have been restored in the old city, including the beautiful Fauzi Azar Inn, where I stayed over my birthday. The three arched windows are indicative of typical Ottoman style.
