I am working off my East Coast Bucket List while I am still employed, because I figure once I am no longer in the Corporate bread line, I will need to be much more frugal. Continue reading

My Robinson Crusoe Moment
Lake Lanier is dotted with a lot of small, uninhabited islands ranging in size from a tiny mound of dirt with a lone tree, all the way up to islands large enough to be home to the Lake Lanier Islands Resort and Water Park.

“MY island,” off to the left
It was these idyllic little islands and coves that made me want to return to Lanier, as they are perfect spots for my Sea Eagle inflatable kayak. Continue reading
Motivated Mama!
I should have known something was up when I was on the phone with a colleague who asked me, “Do you have a pet bird??” We all work in the virtual environment, so it is not uncommon to hear dogs barking, kids yelling, or parakeets squawking in the background. Now that she mentioned it, I had noticed that their birdsong was unusually LOUD! Continue reading
Shady? Shoal? A rose by any other name?
I left Stone Mountain RV Park as the weather was getting worse, and so were the crowds. The park was full due to the long holiday weekend, and I had not made my reservation far enough in advance. The highest temp during my entire visit never exceeded 82, with lows in the mid 60’s at night. Asheville is definitely a place I could live if I were looking for a place to settle down. But not just yet. Continue reading
Chris Farley was Here…
Saturday Night Live fans will remember Chris Farley’s “I live in a van down by the river” skit. Surely Chris Farley’s character Matt Foley, Motivational Speaker who lived in a van down by the river, must have lived in a place similar to Wilson’s RV Park in Asheville. Continue reading
What it means to be a “Skinnie Winnie!”
Another reason why I headed east after leaving Austin instead of the traditional full timer direction westward was because I wanted to attend the National “Skinnie Winnie” rally in Asheville, North Carolina. For those who might not be familiar with what a Skinnie Winnie is, Continue reading
Hiking in and around WNC
Here are a few of the hikes I have explored so far in and around Western North Carolina: Continue reading
The Haunted Forest of Mt Pisgah
My good friend and former colleague Lee and her husband Bob were heading for the Mount Pisgah Campground along the Blue Ridge Parkway, so since I was only about 90 miles away, I decided to meet up with them on my way to Asheville Continue reading
