For those friends reading who might not be familiar with the RVer’s lingo, “mod” is for “modification.” Mods typically involve some sort of innovation or improvement born out of an idea for greater comfort level or conveniencce. Or in some cases, it can also be for bragging rights born out of shameless ego from morphing the RV manufacturer’s original design into that of your own. In my case, it was born out of necessity. Push me, I’m falling…
I love my little motor home as much or more than I could have imagined. But it has been grounded in the driveway for a while for many reasons. Winter. Dentists. And my need to ease into the shift of working environments. Having a very “engaging” job has forced me to go a lot slower than I would have otherwise liked. Continue reading
Finding Nature in the Concrete Jungle
I am still anchored in the Dallas area while I finish up some dental work. While here, it seems like a good opportunity to cross off some of my “Things to see in Dallas” list. Admittedly an intentionally short list Continue reading
State Park Perspectives
Since I have been back in Texas this past year, I have been trying to visit some of the state parks. I even bought my first annual Texas State Park pass to stimulate my exploratory self while keeping the frugal side of me from tabulating day use fees. Continue reading
“True Texas” — You Know it When You Taste it.
There is not a lot of authenticity to “typical Texas” these days. Restaurants and bars can often feel more like you landed at the Texas section of Six Flaggs…more like a theme park than the “state of mind” it used to be, back in the days before the Bush era. Back before the stereotypes brought on by the Urban Cowboy, Billy Bob’s, and “Who shot J.R.?” Continue reading
A Cure for Brown?
I had to cut my time in Mexico short….all for the nerve of a tooth. The nerve that was causing me pain, as well as the lack of nerve that kept me from having it fixed in Mexico. Nothing ventured, nothing gained, Continue reading
Migration of the Mariposa Monarca
Millions of magnificent monarchs on their miraculous, mysterious, magical, mystical migration to Michoacan, Mexico. mmsuuuummmbody STOP me!
I lived most of my 58 years without ever knowing about the miraculous migration of the monarch butterfly. Continue reading
More on Morelia…
There are those towns that you instantly get a “read” on….a good vibe, the minute you step off the bus. Sometimes that first impression turns out to be wrong, but more often than not, the gut feeling is spot on. I had about 6 hours to explore Morelia on my way to Patzcuaro last summer, and I instantly knew it was a place I wanted to return to spend more time. Continue reading
How do you spell “fear?”
How do you spell fear? Me personally? I spell it “D.E.N.T.I.S.T!!”
Throughout all my travels to date, the scariest experience I have had was trying to color my hair in India. I can now update that to reflect “having a toothache in Mexico!” Continue reading
Like a Cactus Tree….Being Free
This being a repeat visit to San Miguel de Allende, I set my intentions to make some new discoveries this year. In a town this small, that is not so easy after four or five visits. Or so I thought….
